Brutalism

PILLARS OF STRENGTH

Manda Benson

On the land where the world ends,
Granite promontories withstand
The relentless tides of change.
Ramparts unbreached by oblivion.

Where grey-walled fortresses
Stand guard against the iron sea,
And concrete buttresses
Uphold a thunder-black sky.

Pillars of strength do not compromise;
Their stark geometry will not lie.
They rise above prejudice,
The transgressions of earth.

Earthbound scorn can't reach
Distant heights where eyes see far,
Lost amidst the chasm of the sky
And the keening of the wind.
